The sketchbook is by artist, Mary Harper; a textile and wallpaper designer who studied at the Central school (that became Central Saint Martins College of Art) in the 1940’s. The books are held in the archive and are used as teaching and research material. Their condition prior to conservation made handling very difficult. Tears in the cover were repaired and losses were reintegrated with a paper similar to the original cover and toned to match. The stains were significantly reduced but not entirely removed. Many types of custom enclosures can be created and old framing can often be modified to prevent further damage.
